About the Artwork

The story behind Portico Of A Mosque, Ahmedabad stems from Edwin Lord Weeks' deep fascination with the cultural richness and architectural splendor of the East. During his travels in the 1880s, he explored various regions of India, where he meticulously documented the stunning sites that inspired his artistry. This particular painting reflects not only his observations of local mosque architecture but also his broader travels throughout the Middle East and North Africa.
