About the artist
Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn was born into a miller’s family in Leiden. After apprenticing with local artists, he moved to Amsterdam, where he became a sought-after portraitist. He experienced early success but faced personal tragedies, including the loss of his wife and children. Despite financial difficulties later in life, Rembrandt remained devoted to his art, creating some of his most profound works during this period. His innovative use of chiaroscuro (light and shadow), psychological depth, and masterful technique made his art timeless. He produced over 300 paintings, 300 etchings, and 2,000 drawings.
