Background of Kerala Varma Valiya Koil Thampuran

Personal Life: Born on February 19, 1845, Kerala Varma was a Malayalam poet and translator, often referred to as the "Kalidasa of Kerala" for his contributions to literature. He was a member of the Parappanad royal family and married to Maharani Lakshmi Bayi, which positioned him within the upper echelons of Travancore's aristocracy. Despite their marriage, the couple remained childless, leading to the adoption of Lakshmi Bayi's grand-nieces as heirs.

Literary Contributions: Kerala Varma was instrumental in modernizing Malayalam literature by blending Western influences with traditional elements. His translations of classical works, such as Kalidasa's Abhijnana Sakunthalam, significantly impacted Malayalam poetry and drama.  He also penned Mayura Sandesham, which reflects his poetic prowess and personal sentiments towards his wife
